Filariasis found in Daeduk Gun (County), Chungchung Namdo

Abstract

|
A survey was conducted of filariasis in a village in Goochuk Myun, Daeduk Gun, Chungchung Namdo, In June 1968, where no filariasis had been known to occur.
Totally 195 thick blood smears were prepared form individuals out of a population cases were found among the 195 examined. Those who were positive with microfilariae were all male and were understood to have had no particular past history of migration to other areas or removal from their place of residence, and one of them was a 9 year old boy. The microfilariae were identified as Brugia malayi (Brug, 1927) Buckley, 1960.
Three elephantiasis cases were found among the village members. All of them were above 45 years old, male and had no particular past history of migration to other areas. This area was found to be endemic with Malayan filariasis showing low microfilarial infection rate.
